The Great Pharaoh Rameses II of the New Kingdom reigned into his 90’s and had over 100 children. Taking the throne in 1279 B.C. from his father Seti I, he was known for conquest, monument building and marriage to the beautiful Nefertari.

Ca. 1200 B.C. Nefertari, the first of the Great royal wives of Rameses II, was known both for her beauty, diplomacy and lavish festivals. Having four sons and two daughters as royal heirs of Rameses, she reigned alongside him as mistress of the two lands. He named her “the one for who the sun shines.”
